Roxie sat at the counter, sipping on some sweet tea as she could see the rising sun out the window. She rested her head on her crossed arms on the counter and sighed. Although she had been at the mansion for two weeks, she still didn't seem to fit in. Roxie looked in her cup, stirring the liquid inside out of boredom.
"Well Rox, this is what ya get fer leavin' home. Out-dated sweet tea an' insomnia," Roxie said leaning her head on her hand, propped up by her elbow on the counter, "Coulda stayed, but noo. Sparky girl can't control her powers,"
Roxie sipped on the tea, swallowing it with pleasure as she ran her fingers through her long, brown, curly hair. Even though she was awake, she still kept on her pajamas of a cami and shorts. Roxie leaned her head back, closing her eyes as she could feel the sun's race escape onto her face.
"I hear th' train acomin'... It's whistlin' 'roun' th' been... an' I ain't see th' sunshine ina... I don' know when..." Roxie sang slowly, rembering her favorite Johnny Cash melody.

Lorna walked toward the kitchen after parking her car in the garage. She had been up since about three this morning, she never slept more then three hours since she was about four. Her body simply didn't need it. She entered the kitchen to find someone sitting at the table, watching the sun and singing a song. Lorna smiled and kept quiet as she listened and went to the fridge to get a glass of milk. She had never heard that song before, but it was nice to listen the this girl singing.

Roxie sighed, opening her eyes and looking up at the ceiling.
"I'm stuck in folsom prison... an' time keeps draggin' on... but that train keepsa rollin', on down the ol' santone..." Roxie sang, then looked up to see someone at the fridge. Without thinking about balencing herself, Roxie fell back out of the chair, hitting the ground.
"Ouch..." Roxie moaned rubbing her back, standing up, "Uh hey. I'm Roxie, Roxie Emmens. I'm still a lil' new here. Didn' know anyone was up,"

Lorna jumped when she heard the chair crash to the floor. She turned to see the girl standing and rubbing her back. She introduced herself and Lorna turned to face her completely. "I'm Lorna Dane, it's nice to meet you. I don't actually live here, but I come early every morning because my body doesn't need to sleep more then three hours. I just come after watching the sun rise in the park and have breakfast. I didn't mean to startle you."

Roxie smiled, waving a hand at her.
"Nah, it ain't yer fault. Gravity jus' ain't my friend usually," Roxie said with a laugh,"So, I'm guessin' yer a mutant jus' as much as I am, eh?"

Lorna nodded and picked up the fridge with her powers. "I can control metal. They call me Polaris," Lorna said as she set the fridge back down and grabbed a glass for her milk. She pored it out before looking back to Roxie. "What about you, what can you do?"

Roxie smiled, then pointed a finger at a piece of bread layin on the table. A small electric bolt came out and cooked the bread on the spot.
"Electricity. Can control it, create it, an' absorb it," Roxie said, then levitated an inch in the air, "Can also use th' static electricity in th' air t'help myself fly. Create thin' t'have at parties,"

"That's cool," Lorna said as she leaned against the counted and drank her milk. "So why are you here at Xavier's, besides the obvious of course. Everyone has a story as to why they're here."

Roxie touched back down on the floor and leaned against the counter.
"Well, I come from a small town, an' grant it, I didn' know 'bout Xavier's at th' time. Niether did any folks there, but they didn' min' tha' I was a mutan', which didn' bother me t'much," Roxie said with a smile as she crossed her arms, "I'd help 'round town. There was a loto've old folks 'round, so I'd be mos'ly helpin' 'em. Guess you could say I was kinda th' lil' town hero. It wasn't 'till I gotta letter from Xavier that he said he knew I'd been havin' some troubles an' such, an' he wanted t'help me. So I got on th' first train t'New York an' here I am,"

"That's nice, it's not often that you hear about one of us being accepted," her mind went to thoughts of her real father and how he sometimes made it hard for mutants to be accepted. "It's almost refreshing to hear that someone has a nice history and not a sad one. So many here were kicked out of their homes or narrowly escaped death by the people where were supposed to accept and love them. I never gave my family the chance to do that to me. I was 18 when my powers emerged and I high tailed it out of there as soon as I could. Left in the middle of the night. I spent three years in seclusion then decided that it was time to rejoin society and I came here."

Roxie raised her eyebrows and nodded.
"Wow," Roxie said, "I don' know if I coulda done that. Did yer parents know?"

"I found out that they weren't my real parents the day my powers emerged. They were my aunt and uncle. My mother and step-father died in a plane crash just days after I was born. I never got to know my mother and I have never met my real father, although I know who he is and that he's still alive." Lorna sighed and shook her head. "I never told my aunt and uncle about my mutation. I just told them in a note that I was leaving and not to look for me because I was 18 and legally could live on my own."

Roxie shrugged, sitting on the counter.
"Ya gotta do what ya gotta do, I guess," Roxie said with a smile, "Didja ever try findin' yer real father?"

"He's not exactly the type of guy I want to meet. He hasn't done too many good things in his life. He actually was a prime suspect in the death of my mother. He's well known for doing what needed to be done, no matter who got hurt or died." Lorna thought about Magneto and all the bad he had done in the world. No, it was better that she was here and safe from him.

Roxie tilted her head to the side.
"Mutan' 'imself, eh?" Roxie said swinging her legs.

"Yeah, a very powerful and not quite good mutant. I guess you can say that we have different opinions about mutants and society. I agree with the Charles Xavier side, but he has his own side. At least he's not quite as evil as the Marauders." Lorna shrugged.

Roxie shrugged, crossing her legs and leaning on her knees.
"I don' know much 'bout sides yet," Roxie said with a smile, then laughed, "I've heard a few names 'round here that I've been told t'stay away from. I guess th' only reason why I came here was because it was the firs' name that I knew tha' had anythin' t'do with mutants,"

"Well, I do know a lot about sides and you picked a good one to be on. They fight for good here and they care about their actions and what they do to others. This world isn't always nice to people like us and we have to be very careful who we side with. Unfortunately I really do think it's going to someday, hopefully not in our lifetime, come down to humans verses mutants. That would not be a war I would want to fight." Lorna said with a sigh.

Roxie frowned, sloutching.
"It's like th' whole segration movement again, huh?" Roxie said with a sigh, "Tha' ain't right,"

"You're right, it isn't. This world has come so far in the acceptance of people, yet we're still discriminated against daily. People fear what they don't know and we are something that humans will never know or understand. Why are we the way we are and not them? Who knows. All I know is that I want to be safe when the final showdown comes to play."
