Jasper gave them a fleeting smile, glad that he could have helped out. This was different than the last girl he had met acted like, even though she did look very similar to this one. The last one had not trusted him even after he helped her and he actually thought that she might have killed him if only to get him out of the way. Sometimes it was hard not have an offensive power and being prey to every whim of those who had grown up fighting. Jasper stood up, running one dirty hand through his rusty-colored hair. His clothes were a mess... He started walking away from the mansion, hoping to find his way back to his apartment in town.

Jasmine watched the man leave. "Umm.. who was he?" She turnded back to X-T.

Chance held Marie close, his eyes moving back and forth, trying to contemplate what had just happened.
"Midnight...you're not going to believe this...but you killed all those Weapon X guys, and then you disappeared." He knew the words were heavy, and it killed him to make her remember once she finally forgot, but he had to make sure that Midnight didn't hate him. He loved her more than he hated humans, and he wanted her back, back like it was before. Back when they first met, in the living room of the X-Mansion, when she was just a girl in a black tankinee and he was just a boy in soggy jeans. That's all he wanted...why couldn't things just be that simple?

X-T looked at her, then sighed.
"I don' know... Frankly, I thought he was gonna stay," X-T said with a smile, "But, not my problem. If ya need me, I'll be on the roof... taken a nice, long, nap..."

Midnight shivered from a fear she didn't know she had. A fear of... darkness? Nothing had been dark, not since Brad died because that was when she found out she could see in it. Then even the shadows weren't enough to hide in. But now a bleak shadow lurked on the edge of her mind, taunting her. Random pictures seemed to drift through her brain... a ruined mall... a bloody wound on Chase Jordan's back... a cell... She shook her head and rested her head on Chance's chest. "Whatever it was..." she mumbled, "I guess we lived through it. Somehow her emotions toward Eric seemed... increased since... whatever... had happened. When did that come around? Or did her heart remember things that her brain did not?
Midnight looked around the lawn, seeing people leaving. The other mutants had left them alone so far. She was worried, insecure, and maybe even a little afraid, but at least she knew that right now she was safe. Or so she thought.
The Shadow Spinner taunted its' host from the cell in the back of her mind. Someday the girl would have to let it out. But for now, a passion stronger than the shadow had locked it away.

Eric craddled Midnight in his arms and felt her snuggling closer to her. "We lived through it all right...but barely." He wondered if he should tell Marie exactly what happened. If he should tell her that she lost control, that the darkness had taken over. But, he decided that now wasn't the time...not yet. He was there, with Midnight in his arms, no mutants around to complicate things. This was the moment he had been searching for ever since he laid eyes on her, and he wasn't going to let anything, especailly genetics, stand in his way.
"Marie," he said brushing some of her dark hair off her cheek. "It's hard for me to say this...not because I'm doubting it, but becasue I've never said these words to anyone before." He suddenly felt extremely vulnerable, like not even his psionic shield could defend him from what he was about to do.
"Marie, I think I'm in love with you." The words started out slow, but then tummbled from his mouth like a waterfall. He couldn't help himself, he bent low and met Midnight's lips with his.

Midnight felt her dark eyes closing as Eric's lips met hers. He had kissed her once before that she could remember, with danger being a flame in their hearts. Now it was silent and safe. She wrapped her arms around him, drawing him in, holding him like she would never let him go.

Eric kept Marie close, his arms holding her against him as his insides fluttered and betrayed his rugged exterior. It was one of those moments that people dream about, that some people never have, and it was over all too soon.
"Marie," he finally breathed into her lips. "We have a lot of things to figure out. But, maybe we should talk to Professor Xavier." He was wondering if his siding with the Brotherhood was ever a good idea...maybe...for Midnight, he could change.

Midnight remembered kissing him more than once, but she couldn't place it. She put that out of her mind for now his green eyes were searching her own dark ones. He was the picture of restraint, like he was making himself do something he was scared of, something that he didn't want to do.
Her glance around told her that most everyone had left. Even so, she feared for Eric. This was the Xavier Institute and they had just tried to attack them. Yet, she felt that the Professor wouldn't turn anyone away. "I guess we could..." she said, her voice still breathless. What would they talk about? Their feelings for each other? Her lack of memory?

As Chance looked around at the deserted front lawn he could feel Marie's hesitation. But, deep down he knew that seeing Professor Xavier was the right thing to do, after all, he had helped Midnight in the past.
"Come on," he said, helping her to her feet. "Let's go in there and get you cleaned up."

Midnight took his hand and was pulled to her feet. She suddenly considered how she might look and swept her long wavy hair back over her shoulder. She was still scared of something, a soft memory of fear like a haze in her brain. But now she was nervous about just being around a guy she had feelings for. She had avoided this since Brad died. She wanted to be close... She moved in near him, but didn't touch him as they started walking for the main doors. At the same time, she scanned the area. She didn't want anyone else seeing them. Eric had just attacked the school afterall.

Eric hoped that he was doing the right thing. He hated humans, with all the fibers of his being he wanted them all to feel the pain they had put him through...but...maybe the Brotherhood was the wrong way to go. Maybe Xavier really could help him. So, walking a little bit in front of Midnight he made his way into the school.

Marie followed him, looking around curiously. What had she missed? It looked more or less the same here at Xavier's as she remembered. A few things were broken, but that was expected after a battle. She paused as Eric held open the door for her and she walked in. Shortly inside the door, she waited. She felt that even though she had lived here and Eric was an enemy, this was more his world than hers: he knew what had happened.

Walking across the threshhold of Xavier's sent a chill down Eric's back. It was like walking into a lions den, and he felt that everyone was staring at him.
"What is he doing here?" Caitlyn Currie, who was standing on the stairs in the foyer talking to Sunspot, suddenly turned around and marched over to Chance, small amounts of black smoke smoldering out from around her. "You trying to blow up the inside now to?"
Eric stepped in front of Marie and stood strong, asserting himself. "No, I don't want any trouble. I just want to see Xavier."

Midnight did take refuge behind Chance, but she peered out at Caity with her dark eyes. It felt like forever since she had seen the pretty girl and yet her attention was more on Chance than her. She seemed to hate him. Midnight wondered if she should try and talk their way to Xaiver since she was actually a student at Xavier's, or if she should let Eric do it his way. At any rate... "Hi, Caity," Midnight murmered. She wondered when she had last seen the girl.

Caity turned from Eric with a disgusted look and gazed at the now timid looking Midnight. "And what do you want?" She sneered. "You go all a-ball on us, turn our front lawn into a giant black hole, infect me with your ridiculous quote, unquote, powers and then march in here like you own the place? With him?" Caity was obviously angery, and the more heated she became the more darkness that began to seep out of her skin.
"Whoa," Chance started, "Listen, Syph, you don't understand...Midnight...she's not herself right now-" But he was cut off by the fuming Syphon,
"Save it Russian Roulette," Caity said, holding up a hand. "I'm psychic remember? Go talk to Xavier, but I swear, if you two do anything, and I mean anything out of line I will personally see to it that the both of you are kicked as far away from Bayville as possible. I mean it. Don't. Mess. With. Me." With that she flipped her hair over her shoulder and marched up the stairs in a huff.
Eric, still caught off guard as to what had just happened, turned toward Midnight, a daunted look in his eyes. "What was that all about?" He smiled. "It's not like I've ever done anything bad or nothing."

Meanwhile, out on the yard Jasmine tried to gather her whits. SHe hadn't seen Pain in a long time and this wasn't how she expected them to meet again. She sighed and walked towards the woods, disappearing in a cloud of purple smoke.

Midnight barely heard him. "What have I done?" she wondered aloud. "Caity is mad at me and I have no idea why." Then hearing for the first time what Chance said, she turned to him, her smile ironic, "Eric, you just attacked the Institute and there seems to be a bit of bad blood between you two. Seems she has a bit of a right to get mad."
Looking around, she pointed down the hall towards Xavier's office, but made no move to go there. If Caity seemed so upset with her, who knows what the other students would be like? She had no idea what she had done, but the uncertainty made her dread. "He's down there," she whispered and shadowed Eric, trying not to be noticed.

Eric gave Midnight a look of mock surprise. "Me? Attack the Institute?!" He smiled. "Now why would I do a thing like that?" But he knew that people like Caity wouldn't find his joke funny, so instead his face turned serious and he turned to face the long walk to Xavier's office.
"He won't...like control my mind or anything will he?" Chance asked, his face turning a little green. "Because I don't like it when psychics poke around where they don't belong..."

Midnight took a breath and touched Eric's forehead softly. Unseen, a small cloud of darkness flowed around his brain to protect his mind. "He won't be able to touch either of us if you don't want it," she replied softly as they walked on down to the big double doors at the end of the hall. Soon they were standing in front of them and Midnight seemed as reluctant to go in as Chance himself did. But even so, she reached out and pushed down on the door handle. "Ready?" she said, giving him a half-hearted smile.
