Bio/History: Born in Kyoto, Japan, Marc’s parents were poor, living on what little they had, and barely scraping by. His father, wishing better for him, sent Marc to a dojo off on one of the smaller islands near the eastern coast. For the longest time, Marc simply wanted to return to his family, not knowing what it meant, or the strength it took, to survive away from his family.
After many months away, Marc began to slowly learn the ways of self-defense, and lighter forms of stealth. After successfully sneaking up on his own master, a feat no other student had ever been able to accomplish, his sensei coined for him the surname “Arishikage”, literally meaning “Storm-Shadow”, in English. Honored, Marc chose it over his original last name, which is now forgotten by all but himself. While Marc’s master began to take a liking to him, he was still confused by the boys attitude: Marc was noble in his words, but dark in his actions.
His master came up with another name for his prize pupil, thanks in part to his bipolar ways: Rook. Conjured from the use of a simple chess piece, whose unpredictability can either be the bringer of victory or defeat.
Soon after his tutelage was complete, Marc set sail for America, wishing to begin a new life where prosperity wasn’t so impossible. Using his skills as a multi-level black belt to his advantage, Marc began to work as an assassin for hire to the highest bidder, taking either up-front money, or a percentage of total income, he had made a comfortable living after only a few years.
While working for a crime boss in New York, “Rook” came across another hitman, named Nick Welker. Nick, known better in the underground as “Crosswise”, had told Marc of his distaste of the Mob Bosses greed, and proposed the two of them split off and worked as a duo. Marc agreed, although he didn’t like the prospect of working tandem. In the simplest terms, Marc just wanted to try something new.
Of hearing of the news of activity of mutant factions in Bayville, the two came in search of work, whether for clearing out mutants, or helping them for a fee, the two welcome challenges of all kinds, and have yet to be beaten.
