Bio/History:
Kyra was born in Barbados but her parents moved to the Us when she was 8. Despite the fact that she was now surrounded by bustling crowds, busy streets and tall sky scrapers in her heart she could always feel the warm sea breezes and smell the incense of her home. she lived in a small apartment in Harlem New York with her parents and her soon to be born little brother. She was happy in her public school until a few years passed and she entered the 6th grade. Her little brother developed a serious, mysterious illness and died. Her Father plunged into depression and became extremely distant. Kyra's mother was over come with guilt and grief and was now emotionally abandoned by her spouse. She committed suicide and Kyra's father soon followed her example but failed.
Distraught and unfit as a parent Mr. Roberts found himself in an institution. Kyra was put in the system and went from foster home to foster home for about a year and half until she noticed her mutation. One night she got very sick and her sweat burned through the sheets. A doctor analyzed the sweat as containing hydrochloric acid and she was admitted into a hospital. At the age of twelve she was diagnosed as a mutant and stayed in the hospital until she was 15, where they discovered the extent of her powers. She went to live with more foster parents, these two she liked the most, for another year and a half until her foster mother decided she should be sent to the mansion.
*Example Post: Kyra's Nightmare
Kyra hated this hospital. She hated it today, she'd hate it tomorrow and she would hate every hospital to come. Doctors always told you that you were sick, that something wasn't right and who wanted to hear that? The thing that probably irritated her the most was waiting. Waiting in the backless gown, the cold rough protective tissue paper beneath her bare legs, the white walls, white linoleum, white ceiling, white counter white....
"Miss. Roberts, how are you today?"
....the whole thing was...
"Sick." she said simply to the doctor as he entered.
"The nurse told me you keep saying that. Honey, you aren't sick." he brushed a hand through his chestnut brown hair. His face was friendly enough but his lab coat and clip board all screamed "DOCTOR!" and Kyra had already written him off as an enemy.
"Because I am. You're all saying it. You're writing down notes on me, you wont let e go home..." she trailed off, even she knew the last thing was near impossible. She had no home anymore her parents couldn't take care of her. Her mother was dead her father was mentally gone...
"No one has used the word sick and I'm willing to bet money on that." the doctor smiled. "You have a very unique situation and we all want to help you."
"Help me what?" she demanded. "If nothing is wrong then why do I need help?"
"Are you sure you're 12?" he chuckled as he took a seat in front of her on a stool.
Kyra hated when adults tried to laugh things off, she would never be an adult like that, she would always listen to children.
"When can I leave?" she asked.
"We haven't gotten your test results back but to be honest with you-"
"Don't say it if you don't mean it."
"What?"
"Don't say 'to be honest' if you're going to omit stuff." Kyra said fixing her eyes on his.
He chuckled again, she wished he wouldn't do that. "Well, you were secreting an acid from your skin, that's not normal. This is assumed to be caused by a genetic mutation and if it is we need to study it and see how severe and strong it is."
"I'm a...mutant?" Kyra whispered. "I'm a..freak..."
"You are not a freak, Kyra. You have a gift." he whispered. Perhaps he was the only doctor who wouldn't try to fix her, perhaps he was on her side.
The tears stung the eyes of the pretty brown skinned girl as she rose her moon shaped face to look at him. She had had a bad dream the night before, so bad, so scary that she had broken into a sweat, a sweat that burned through the sheets. She had fangs growing in her mouth and when she bit into her sandwich that morning the saliva left behind made the bread and meat bubble and break apart. Whenever the lights were off she saw heat and figures looked like ghosts. She was a mutant....
She wasn't normal.
That night Kyra looked out of the window and out into the city. Somewhere there was a really nice family who wanted a pretty orphan like herself...but Kyra was getting old and everyone wanted babies. Who would want a mutant 12 year old girl? Who would love Kyra? Protect Kyra? Her parents were gone, the rest of her family was outside of the country and she was stuck in a hospital for an indefinite amount of time. Kyra would be alone...
And that was the worst of her nightmares.
It would be for the next three years in the hospital, as she honed her skills and tried to look normal. It would be her fear as she attended the mutant academy and for the rest of her years as a person. What Kyra had to learn was that she did not have to fear being alone, she needed to fear her fear of being alone. She would never truly be by herself, no matter where she went she would find someone who liked her, someone to love her....at that moment though, on the hospital bed in the overnight ward she felt her hands grow cold with an eternal chill as if they would never be held by another's.
