Patrick poked around his small room. Normally he would have shared with the other boys, but there was only one, the captain, and Patrick hadn't wanted to bother him. For now, until the two became closer, he would stay in a guest room adjacent to the boy's dormitories.
He looked around and saw the dresser, the bed, the nightstand, the window (with window seat) and a few shelves. The room was by no means tiny, but compared to the spacious dormitories it was a closet.
He walked over to his duffel bag and began to unpack his things, placing them in his dresser. He noticed that his mother had come the day before and placed fresh sheets on his bed, so thoughtful for a woamn who was ashamed of him.
He sighed, memories of home made him wince. But he was here now, not there, and the Xavier Institute was to be his new home...he just had a lot of getting used to.
Finally finished with his shirts, underwear and sock, he moved to put his jeans in the closet. However, when he opened the closet he saw something hanging on a hanger. When he pulled it out his jaw dropped and he gaped in awe. It was a uniform, a true-blue X-Man uniform. Attached was a note:
Dear Fallback,
As a member of an X-Team you will need a Uniform. Your parents informed me that your favorite color was orange, and so I had this made up immedietly. Please get used to it for now, you can always change it in the future.
Your Truely,
Professor Xavier
Fallback smiled. The uniform was too cool. It was made of some sort of black rubbery-plastic. He admired the cool Orange "X" that crossed the chest and the bands of orange that circled the shoulders, bicepts and knees. It also had an orange belt, orange gloves and, on the floor below, a pair of orange and black boots.
"Maybe this whole X-Man thing can work out after all." He smiled and began to prepare to try the uniform on.
